Mental Health Services

Hope Horizon Mental Health offers comprehensive mental and behavioral health services for children and families throughout Tulare County. We have licensed clinical staff, a board certified child psychiatrist, registered intern clinicians, student interns and trainees, and mental health rehabilitation professionals who work together to ensure our clients receive the care they need to be happy, healthy, and empowered to achieve their highest potential.

Assessment

A complete mental health assessment is the first step to determine what services are appropriate to address the needs or concerns that bring that child or family to seek services at Hope Horizon Mental Health. The assessment process includes meeting the child and key family members or caregivers, as well as talking with important people in the child’s life who may be helpful in developing a plan for treatment. During the assessment phase, a lot of information is gathered as well as the therapist observing the family interactions to help in learning how mental health treatment will benefit the child and family as well as what services or programs are recommended. Please see the services tab above to learn more about the many services and programs we offer.

Note: Hope Horizon Mental Health provides a variety of specialty mental health services. The assessment helps the therapist determine whether HHMH is the best place for your child to receive services or if they should be referred to a different agency in the community. In the event a referral to a different provider is appropriate, we will help to make sure you get connected to the best place to meet your needs!

Our Approach to Care:

Culturally Competent

Trauma Informed

Office Based Mental Health Services

Our goal is to provide services that are accessible to the families we serve. We provide services in offices located throughout Tulare County. All of our programs and services are available at our main office, located in Tulare. These include individual and family therapy, group therapy, case management services, psychiatry, crisis support (during business hours) and a variety of other specialty mental health services. Scroll through the services tab for more information.

We also have satellite offices located in Lindsay, Earlimart, Visalia, Porterville, and Dinuba to provide specialty mental health services.

School Based Mental Health Services

Early on, Hope Horizon Mental Health (formerly Tulare Youth Service Bureau) recognized the need to work with children in the school setting. Currently HHMH is able to serve children at 48 elementary, middle and high schools in traditional and non-traditional school settings throughout Tulare County. A child might receive services at their school site for a variety of reasons. Many families who reside in Tulare County face access to service issues such as transportation or work-related commitments that prevent taking the necessary time to bring their child to the clinic. Many children served may be demonstrating behavioral challenges in the school setting. By working with the child in this natural setting, outcomes can be improved. Additionally, the consistent presence of a HHMH therapist at a school site enhances HHMH’s relationships with the schools themselves. Being available to respond to high risk and crisis situations, while providing support and guidance also improves outcomes.

Cultural Competency

A culturally competent mental health system includes skills, attitudes and policies that make sure the needs of everyone are addressed in a society of diverse values, beliefs, orientations, different races, religions and languages. It is a system that improves the quality of care for all of Tulare County’s many different peoples and provides them with understanding and respect for those differences. Hope Horizon Mental Health is responsible to provide the individuals it serves with culturally and linguistically competent specialty mental health services. For example: non-English or limited English-speaking persons have the right to receive services in their preferred language and the right to request an interpreter. If an interpreter is requested, one must be provided at no cost. People seeking services do not have to bring their own interpreters. Written and verbal interpretation of your rights, benefits and treatments are available in your preferred language. Information is also available in alternative formats if someone cannot read or has visual challenges.

Hope Horizon is required to:

Trauma Informed

Trauma-informed mental health services are a way of providing mental health care that acknowledges the role that traumatic events can play in a person’s life and in the development of mental health disorders. This type of care is based on the understanding that a person’s past experiences, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, can affect their current mental health and coping strategies. Trauma-informed services involve creating a safe and supportive environment, providing education on trauma and its effects, and using evidence-based treatments to address the individual’s needs. The goal of trauma-informed care is to empower individuals to heal and to build resiliency so they can move forward in their lives
